Fondly,

Weeks after learning of Uncle Laurence’s death, Nora opened the promised correspondence from Thimity Cogan. The same letter was received by all of the cousins.

To the Beneficiaries of the Estate of

Laurence O’Donnell, Bishop of Galway

Gentlemen and Ladies,

Yesterday, interested parties to the last will and testament of our late bishop, Laurence O’Donnell, gathered at our Courthouse Lane offices in Galway City.

Those gathered included the man we anticipate will be appointed by the Holy See as the next bishop of Galway, Monsignor John McEvilly. Also present was the vicar general of the diocese, Terence Gurley, and the late Bishop O’Donnell’s housekeeper, Mrs. Kitty Carr, who was accompanied by her son, Father Thomas Carr, presently serving at Saint Patrick’s College in Maynooth.

The reading of the deceased’s last will and testament revealed the following beneficiaries of his estate. (I have not included all of Bishop O’Donnell’s specific bequests, or the percentages of residual gifts, as some of the information still requires calculation and estimation.)
